Packing for a safari is simpler than many people expect. Days are spent mostly in a vehicle, laundry is often available at lodges, and light aircraft transfers may limit luggage to a soft bag. Pack light, pack smart.
Clothing
- Lightweight shirts and trousers in neutral colours (khaki, olive, beige).
- A warm fleece or jacket — early mornings and the Ngorongoro rim can be cold.
- A light rain jacket in the wetter months.
- A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses and comfortable closed shoes.
Equipment
- Binoculars — ideally one pair per person.
- A camera with a zoom lens, spare batteries and memory cards.
- A universal power adapter and a power bank.
- Sunscreen, insect repellent and any personal medication.
Documents and health
Check entry and visa requirements for your nationality with official Tanzanian government sources before you travel, and speak to a travel-health professional about vaccinations and malaria prevention. Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended.
Luggage
Soft-sided duffel bags fit more easily into safari vehicles and small aircraft than hard suitcases. If you are continuing to Zanzibar or climbing Kilimanjaro, we can advise on storing extra luggage.
