A climber celebrating at the Uhuru Peak summit sign

Kilimanjaro route

Northern Circuit

  • Londorossi Gate (Lemosho trailhead)
  • Mountain tents

The longest route, circling the quiet northern slopes of Kibo for outstanding acclimatisation and solitude.

The Northern Circuit starts like Lemosho in the west, then curves around the rarely visited northern slopes before summiting from the east. It is typically climbed over eight or nine days.

The length gives the body more time to adapt to altitude, which makes it an excellent choice for climbers who want the best possible conditions for the summit.

Route highlights

  • Most days on the mountain
  • Very few other climbers on the northern traverse
  • 360° views around Kibo
  • Excellent acclimatisation
